WarnerMedia will be discontinuing HBO and WB TV channels in Pakistan, India, Maldives and Bangladesh from this 15th December.
Warner Media group has been a very successful entertainment conglomerate, But lately they have been struggling with the ratings in South Asian countries.
Reason of Discontinuation
The entertainment company has stated that they will be removing it’s popular channels HBO and WB from the South Asian countries. The reason cited for the discontinuation are low ratings and the failure to find a sustainable business model in the television industry in South Asian countries.
It is concluded that the HBO’s viewership is small in Pakistan and India. This is due to the availability of other popular english channels like Star Movies, Comedy Central, Star World etc. So the Warner Media has not been gaining enough of what they require.
Siddharth Jain, SVP and Managing Director, Warner Media International Division, said “After 20 years of successes for the HBO linear movie channel in South Asia and more than a decade with the WB linear movie channel, this was a difficult decision to make.”
However, Warner Media has also said that this was the difficult decision to make and it will continue to offer Cartoon Network and Pogo in India, and distribute CNN International in the country.
